Spring backyard wedding for a long-term couple!

This couple had been companions for a number of years, and they celebrated their legal wedding in their backyard, with stories, humour, and a woodpecker!

 The wind was blowing, so we didn't step outside, but had a lovely wedding in the couple's 'breakfast room', far away from the King Street construction madness..

We're in the park - with the lake behind us.  A lovely late summer wedding, with just family and friends. You wouldn't know there are a zillion tourists only a few blocks away.  Super lovely couple, and nice to meet all the family as well.

Wedding at short notice - delightful midday ceremony

This great couple were working out plane tickets and witnesses, and a license - and a location - all in a short space of time.  It all came together, with wedding outfits and delighted friends and a luckily available room at the University Multifaith Centre,  and a beautiful sunny winter morning.

Romantic winter elopement - Hilton Hotel by the fireplace

We had planned an outdoor ceremony - perhaps on the waterfront, or on the ferry, or even on the island.  Then we thought about Grange Park by the Bell Tower, or even the grounds of Osgoode Hall.  But the weather turned nasty - so we asked the downtown Hilton if they had a room we could use.  They kindly said that they would open the tower lounge just for us, for a short private wedding.  Hurrah!

Backyard (patio) private wedding outside an apartment, a very happy event

Here's a lovely 'side' yard wedding (on the patio of their apartment).  A stormy afternoon turned sunny just in time for a wedding.  Got this great pix back from these guys, who had been on a cycle trip from Toronto to Montreal to raise money/awareness for the Toronto People with AIDS foundation. Good exercise, good cause, and 6 days on a bike.  Pretty impressive!

Fantasy Farms, stormy weather, lovely brides

So the radar was scary this season - but we've managed all the outdoor weddings with some sort of magic timing luck!  In this case, the heavens opened JUST after the ceremony!  But we had a great wedding on the Fantasy Farms verandah, and here's a pix in the garden afterwards. A few clouds are good for picture contrast!

Happy Pride! Lots of weddings!

Happy 2 weekends of weddings - at the Bathurst Community Centre, Allan Gardens, Edwards Gardens, and on some nice backyards and roof decks.  I was already booked during the Pride Parade this year, so my friend Arran is conducting a little informal wedding at the Ontario Humanist Society BOOTH at the PRIDE Parade!  Sounds perfect (and a lot quieter than being up on the float in the parade).  Perhaps he'll send pix.  I was recently asked to help with a Hindu-Secular-Vegan -Non-dairy-Same sex wedding, (wow!) and again, wasn't available, but my colleagues and I worked together to offer advice and help.  Lots of creative couples, with lots of good ideas.  We make sure your wedding follows the LEGAL requirements of the Marriage Act of Ontario, and help with advice on combining rituals and traditions to add your personal touches.  Always feel free to write with questions or ideas....   And here was LAST year's Pride wedding! The one on the float!

Tiff Elopement!

Here are two wonderful people, who came up north for TIFF, and got married at the Thompson Hotel, in a bit of calm time in the middle of the crazy (Brad Pitt's bodyguards at the pool, George Clooney sneaking in the hotel...).  But the real romance was here - C and B, together 13 years, had a wonderful, intimate Canadian wedding in the Big Smoke.  Lifted us up for whole day.... I don't usually put comments in these snippets, but they wrote to say they're home, and the wedding was 'perfect', and they felt they'd known us for years (my husband was a witness).  We felt the same - and wish them a lifetime of happiness, just like this.

Pride Parade Wedding: Carter and Breken

"On a float decked out in wedding white, with signs that read “Long Live Love” and “Here come the Grooms,” Carter Etherington and Breken Elwood wore light grey suits. Prompted by humanist wedding officiant Mary Beaty, they exchanged rings, and shouted their vows and their “I do’s” into a microphone.    Then the grooms kissed and the crowd roared its approval.
Etherington broke out into tears and Elwood wiped them away. They embraced again as Whitney Houston’s “Your Love is My Love” started to play.
The pair had been thinking about getting married since New York, their home state, legalized same-sex marriage last year. Then they won a contest from Tourism Toronto that included airfare, hotel accommodations at the Windsor Arms Hotel and an official marriage ceremony during Pride.

 “It’s not only our responsibility but our pleasure to come to a country that allows gay couples to legally recognize their love and their relationships. We hope we’re able to make a different in the U.S. with our story,” Etherington said in an interview before the parade"

(we had a blast - but remember, we can't actually do the legal wedding on a moving float where the crowd is yelling so hard we can't even hear  - this was a re-enactment and "renewal of vows", we had a wonderful private ceremony the  day before at the Windsor Arms, with all the required bells and whistles - and then the whistles (and water cannons) were for the public parade. Two weddings!  Happy grooms - what a wonderful day..)
